cont'd.........

Beck is best known for his works during the 1960's dealing with the Civil Rights Movement but his historical presentations of the black community are literally classics, collected world wide.  Utilizing oils, pencil, watercolor & charcoal, he captures a realism that is both striking & tenderly touching. His subjects often include children, religion and the interaction of all peoples.
A firm believer in grassroots movements, Beck established the Arthello Beck Gallery which was to become a centerpiece for the Dallas art scene of the 1970's and 80's and was instrumental in promoting the careers of many black artists. He was a member of the National Conference of Artists and the Southwest Alliance of African American Artists and was one of the founders of the Southwest Black Artists Guild.

Arthello Beck was an outstanding American & an outstanding artist that is very much missed on the art scene.
